Kuari Pass is a 4 days trek (6 days while you include the journey days from Dehradun). The trek starts from Dhak, a small village close to Joshimath in the Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand. Kuari Pass is located in the Nanda Devi National Park or Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, established in 1982.

Kuari Pass Trek was explored by Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon when the British ruled India. It is an ideal Trek for Beginners which lies in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 4,264 meters / 12,516 ft.

Itinerary

  • Day 01
    Pickup from Dehradun Railway Station and Drive to Joshimath
    • Altitude: 6152 ft (1876 m)
    • Time taken: 10/11 Hours journey by Car, 257 Km
    • Water sources: Carry sufficient water.

    Ramble Tour and Travels, organizes transport for trekkers from Dehradun Railway Station in the morning which will leave for Joshimath at around 6:00 am to 7:00 am as per your train or flight timing.

    The Journey to Joshimath is 10/11 hours long, alongside the holy rivers – Alaknanda, Mandakini, and Ganga. we will reach Devprayag on our way, on the Sangam of river Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. This is a lovely place. The adventure won’t get boring because there are surprising changes in the surroundings as you move further.

    Reach Joshimath base camp, check in to the hotel, in the evening you can discover nearby famous tourist places. After a testy dinner, enjoy comfortable stay in the hotel.

    Drive Joshimath to Dhak by taxi (12km) same day trek to Gulling camp

    Today early morning after breakfast leave for Dhak village that is 12 km away from Joshimath, which is the starting point of the Kuari Pass trek.

    Start the ascent and at the path a few shepherded huts are visible. Then trek through the Oak, Deodar, and Rhododendrons forests. Dhauli Ganga River flows below close to the Hydro energy Power plant, now you're about to reach a village named “Tugasi” hiking right here could be a relief because the trail is leveled.

    Go further, attain a ridge and pass a descent to reach your campsite “Gulling”. It lies amid a forest area and gives lovely views of Chaukhamba peaks.

    Trek from Gulling to Tail camp site
    • Altitude: 9,832 feet ft (2997m)
    • Time taken: 05 km – 3/4 Hours journey
    • Trek gradient: Easy but Continuous ascent

    This morning Wake up early to enjoy the morning sight of Chaukhamba peaks. After having breakfast we will start our trek for Tail camp.

    Today’s trek is an easy one however you need to ascend all of the way to reach your campsite. While ascending observe how lovely it is to walk under the shade of trees. Once you pass this forest area multiple streams will be flowing around. Continue hiking and reach the campsite.

    This campsite is a forest clearing with some amazing views of the Dronagiri Mountains and the Hathi Ghoda peaks. Enjoy spending a night time here in peace.

    Trek from Tail camp to Kuari pass summit to Khullara camp site

    Today Wake up early and get prepared to conquer the Kuari Top and Kuari Pass today.

    Start your trek and while the altitude is gained, the tree line recedes. The ascent is steep however as soon as you reach the ridge top the landscape views of Himalayan peaks will leave your spellbind and the efforts will be completely rewarding.

    Stare at majestic Nanda Devi and Mt. Trishul. Now, move further and stand at Kuari Top with a feeling of pleasure and happiness. Look around at each peak visible and reward its beauty.

    Now, begin descending slowly and reach Kuari Pass, do now no longer spend a lot of time right here due to more stunning views await you ahead!

    Ahead lies Jhandi Top, climb to this top is moderate however the views are extraordinarily excellent and better than Kuari Pass. Spend a while at the pinnacle in the happiness of efficiently completing the summit. Then descend to your campsite Khullara camp.

    The Khullara camp is a meadow and forest area and your campsite for the day. Descend through forests and reach there. It gives clean views of Dronagiri.

    Set up your tents at this meadow, have a good time the completion, have delicious meals and retire for the night.

  • Day 05
    Trek from Khullara camp to Auli via Garson Bugyal and drive to Joshimath hotel
    • Altitude: Kuari pass: 13,989 feet
    • Time taken: 09 km – 4/5 Hours journey
    • Trek gradient: Moderate
    • Water sources: We advise to Carry 2 liters of water

    After breakfast, we will start our journey back to Joshimath via Auli. After beginning the trek visit Garson Bugyal, the reflection of mountains on the water will mesmerize you.

    Come to the trail and Himalayan villages will become visible. Reach “Garson Bugyal” a lovely meadow with clean and superb mountain views. sped some time hear to explore Garson Bugyal and again start descending.

    On the way is a stunning small temple, from here, the downhill trek becomes easy. Ahead, reach the Upper Auli and head to the main Auli. Continue hiking and reach there in an hour. Auli is a wonderful snow destination in winters.

    Spend some time here and depart for Joshimath by taxi 18 km, check in to the hotel in Joshimath, over night stay at Joshimath.

Necessary Items for trekkers
  • Backpack (50 to 60 liters)
  • A strongly built backpack with good support is compulsory for a trek. (Rain cover is important)
  • Sturdy Trekking Shoes
  • The shoes should be strong enough with good support. The people ask if sports shoes would be comfortable but it is good to bring the right trekking shoes.
  • Trek Pants
  • The jeans are never suitable for a trek so you need at least 2-3 trek pants for treks carry more for longer treks.
  • Jacket
  • Jackets are very important to carry on a trek it protects you against the chilly weather. So carry 2 jackets on a week long trek.
  • Layers of warm Clothing
  • Carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter season (at least 2 to 3) and less during summer.
  • Thermals
